I painted it on a 8x8x3" canvas, so even the shape is unique. It's chunky and cute and it resides on a bookshelf , where it brightens the whole room. I cannot help but smile each time I look at it. The canvas was a mistake. I did not realize how deep it was when I ordered it. What could I possibly do with it? Well, for this painting, I think it is perfect! Have a fantastic day!

Tropical Island Palette Knife Oil Painting, 10x10x3", Coastal Home and Beach House Wall Decor, daily painting, small oil painting, abstract landscape
This tropical landscape is my version of a perfect deserted Caribbean island, surrounded by azure waters and sparkling beaches........Paradise!
| Purchase here |
The perfect place to chase away those dark and cold winter evenings.
I enjoyed creating this piece with my palette knife and my imagination.
It's on a 10" square stretched canvas, with 3" deep painted sides. The deeper sides makes it look great on the wall, or on a shelf or table top.
Thanks for viewing my art today.

Abstract Oil Landscape Painting, Small Original Artwork, Coastal Home Decor, Daily Painting
The Outer Banks on North Carolina have been on my mind. I was thinking of Ocracoke when I painted this little abstract seascape.
The Outer Banks is like no other place I have visited. Surrounded by water, the residents are a hardy type who take pride in providing for themselves. The danger of living there, is still felt, as the tropical storms and hurricanes devastate the dunes and road on a regular basis. In earlier times, shipwrecks littered the beaches.
I painted with a palette knife and oils, leaving it as raw and wild as the beaches.
Thanks for viewing my art today.

Abstract Landscape Painting, Textured Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 10x10x3" Oil SOLD
I found some square 3 inch deep canvases in my studio, and decided to play around with one.
| SOLD
I tried several approaches, but nothing was working for me. So, I just started playing with paint and my palette knife. I was envisioning a sunset over the landscape, choosing colors that "felt" right for me.
You can see how deep the canvas is in this pic. I actually love these big clunky canvases on shelves rather than walls, and I like the feel of the rough clunky paint.
All in all, it was a fun painting day.

Abstract Landscape, "Day is Done", 6x8" Oil Abstract SOLD
It is early evening in the Florida marsh and the sun is just about to disappear.
I snapped my photo and high-tailed it out of there before the creepy crawlies came out.
I enjoy a lot of texture in my work and find that abstraction is the perfect media to portray it.
Do you find that your goals in art change as you continue on your artistic journey?

Live Oak with Spanish Moss, 6x6", Oil
Live oak trees are found everywhere in the south, usually, draped with Spanish moss. The trees are huge with long, long branches that sometimes droop to the ground. They are called "live oaks" because they cycle their new leaves all year long and never are bare.
Spanish moss was named after the first Spanish explorers who came to Louisiana and Florida. The Indians thought the moss looked like the beards of the explorers.
Basically, Spanish moss just needs somewhere to hang out, and live oak foliage leaches an especially high amount of the nutrients it needs. While excessive growths of Spanish moss can be problematic for unhealthy trees in high wind situations, in most cases healthy live oaks have extensive root structures that keep them in place during storms.
Spanish moss is great for wildlife. Birds use it for nesting material, and it provides shelter for creatures like bats and bugs, including a type of spider that’s been found nowhere else. Throughout history, humans have used it to stuff mattresses, as packing material and insulation, and even in the car seats of some of the first Fords. (This proved to be a problem when the red ants living in the Spanish moss made their presence known – they solved this problem in the future by boiling the moss first.)
So really, y’all, there’s no reason for southern nature and wildlife lovers not to like Spanish moss just as much as the stately tree that it hangs in.

Daily Painting, Landscape, "Field of Poppies",SOLD 6x8, oil
It's always a beautiful sight to come upon a field of poppies in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
I had to pull out my palette knife and lots of creamy oils for this little piece. Some days I just want to push around a lot of paint.
