Coastal Wall Decor, Beach House Painting, Abstract Seascape, Textured Palette Knife Painting, SOLD
This painting is sold, but I will be happy to paint something similar for you.
My inspiration here was the sun setting over the sea. Painted with a palette knife and highly textured.

Playing with Paint, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 10x10x3" Abstract Oil Painting
Today is gray, foggy and damp, so I decided to post the most fun painting I could find.
I painted it on a 8x8x3" canvas, so even the shape is unique. It's chunky and cute and it resides on a bookshelf , where it brightens the whole room. I cannot help but smile each time I look at it. The canvas was a mistake. I did not realize how deep it was when I ordered it. What could I possibly do with it? Well, for this painting, I think it is perfect! Have a fantastic day!

Daily Abstract Painting, "Abstractions of the Mind" 20x16", Oil
Abstract painting is not the norm for me, therefore, it is usually not relaxing either. For some unknown reason, this one was the exception.
Planning probably made the difference. I have a DVD of an abstract artist who advocates just slapping on color and letting it go where it will. It works well for him. For me, not so much.
So I found an old canvas, one I had started a painting and never finished. I sketched in the basics of my composition and then reviewed some of my images and decided what colors I wanted to use.

Some areas show pieces of the original painting peaking through.
It was a nice change of pace from my usual painting techniques.

Daily Painting, Landscape, "Field of Poppies",SOLD 6x8, oil
It's always a beautiful sight to come upon a field of poppies in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
I had to pull out my palette knife and lots of creamy oils for this little piece. Some days I just want to push around a lot of paint.
What are you painting in your studio today?

Abstract Daily Painting, 8x8" "INDECISION", SOLD
Every once in a while I have to try something abstract. This one is all about texture and the red under painting.
I mixed sand from the beach into the gesso.
It's always fun to experiment, especially when I start to take my painting a little too seriously.
This piece is sold, but is available as a giclee canvas print here.

Abstract, Original Oil, Non-representational SOLD"Blue and Green" 6x8"
You know me.......I am off the beaten track again! I did several abstract paintings last week and decided to show you one today.
This is a study of color interaction and composition. Because I love texture in my paintings, I threw some of that in too.
I find abstract work to be very rewarding and relaxing. The perfect activity to counteract burnout or other stresses of life. It only works for me for a week or two.......then the desire for structure, the desire to produce a recognizable image, overwhelms me and I retreat to my still life and landscapes. How do you deal with burnout?
Now that we are into serious Christmas shopping, I wanted to show you another of my little daily paintings that is on sale at half price this week.
You can find the link here.

Daily Abstract Painting, "Feeling My Way", 12x12"
Moving into a new area of work is always both exciting and frustrating. When I sit down to try an abstract, I feel like I am jumping off a cliff.
On this piece I used acrylics, oils and ink. I also included some cheesecloth for texture.
I am finding that although abstract looks very simple, and free, it requires much planning.
Have a great weekend and thank you for viewing.

Daily Painting | Abstract Painting | Small Oil Painting | Wishful Thinking by Carol Schiff | 14x11" SOLD
Well, it has happened again.........I had the urge to try my hand at abstract again.
I was determined to do a mixed media abstract, get out my many Golden mediums, and just have a fun day playing. Kind of like kindergarten. Why did I think that?
Don't I know that mixed media abstract is one of the most stressful things I can try? Why don't I remember that my mind goes blank, that I'm not one of those people that can stand in front of a blank canvas and pick up a brush without a plan?
Why do I always think, this time it will be different?
Well it wasn't. I worked at least 4, maybe 5 hours with my Golden mediums, getting the texture just right, carefully choosing the acrylic colors, blah, blah, blah. It was a mess.
The next day, I sanded down as much as I could, turned to my beloved oils, and ended up with this result. Something I can live with. Something that might give me a tad more confidence the next time I decide to do an abstract. Something that I really kind of ........ like. NEVER GIVE UP!!
