Abstract Sunset, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Textured, 14x18 Oil on Canvas

When I think of Florida, I think of the sun rising over the sea.  It's such a special time to spend on the beach.

Usually, I find myself there alone, with only the soft waves and shore birds to keep me company.  I very special time to  connect with nature and prepare for the day ahead.

With this piece, I used my palette knife to give movement to the painting.

Abstract Seascape | Daily Painting | "Tropical Blues" by Carol Schiff | 6x8" Oil SOLD

When I lived close to the sea, I found that it turned up in my painting in both a representative and non-representative form.  I guess this little daily painting falls somewhere between the two.

SOLD

I painted this with a palette knife.  I like texture and feel it adds additional interest to my art.  I was thinking about the beautiful greens and blues of the tropical waters off the coast of Florida.  Further south they turn the most amazing shades of azure, but that will be another painting.

I almost always show my paintings in black frames.  It would be hard to find an artwork that would not work well with black and it just makes the colors pop.

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Palette Knife Painting, Fish and Flowers

My studio moving sale is over.  I want to thank everyone who purchased art from me during this sale.  As you know, I moved from Florida to North Carolina, and it was important for me to lower my inventory.

I am happy to announce.....the sale was a success!!

Today, I am posting a couple of my favorites, that are still available.

Thanks for viewing my blog today

Life is good in North Carolina, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Blue Ridge Highway, 6x8" Oil,

Last fall, we took a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  It was a crisp, sunny day and my camera was busy clicking away.

It's hard to go wrong with a blue and yellow painting.....it just shouts "Cheerful".  The background was painted  with a brush, but I used a palette knife on the flowers and grasses.  That's when it started to be really fun!

I feel like I was able to capture the feel of the day......I hope it made you smile!

Sunflowers and farmhouse...the perfect pairing! daily painting, small oi painting, 6x8 oil painting

Sunflowers and farmhouses, the perfect pairing!

It is a cold, gray day, here in the mountains, and sunflowers are the perfect way to brighten things up.

Both sunflowers and farmhouses, are not uncommon, here in the mountains.  It's hard not to smile when I look at sunflowers.

Yesterday, we drove over the mountains  to Gatlinburg.  I am happy to report that things are looking up there.  Spring is taking over, renewal is everywhere.  Yes, there are still signs of the devastating fires from two years ago, but the mood is upbeat and the tourists are there.

Have a wonderful day!

Tropical Fish Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Palette Knife Painting

A few years ago, we visited the coral reef off Key Largo.  Although I get sea sick, when the boat is not under power, I still enjoyed seeing the colorful tropical fish, and of course, the trip out and back.

Beautiful turquoise waters, stunning landscapes, fabulous wildlife.....the perfect day.

I am enjoying these palette knife paintings immensely.  I have been so intense about my brush work, that I had ignored the palette knife for months.  Now that I am working with it again, I am enjoying the freedom it brings.
