Today is gray, foggy and damp, so I decided to post the most fun painting I could find.

Expressionist Seascape Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Textured Art, Palette Knife Painting, SOLD
Well probably your 5 yr old kid could do this....right? Maybe that is why I enjoy it so much.
I may be a slow learner, because it took me many years to get to this point. Mama never said I was the sharpest knife in the drawer.
All kidding aside, I really love the freedom of this piece. Instead of leaving the studio feeling like I have been fighting for hours, I felt very relaxed, happy and ready to sail through the day. I think I need to do this more often!
Thanks for reading my blog today.

Seascape Painting, Palette Knife Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8" Textured Seascape
I wanted to do a seascape, or actually a beach painting, somewhere between an abstract and impressionism.
I wanted to record just my memories and impressions of trips to the beach. I painted with a knife and tried to work quickly.
I tried not to think too much about the colors I was using or where I was putting them, but tried to keep it really instinctive.
I wanted plenty of texture in this piece.
It was a fun exercise!

Abstract Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Mountain Walk, 6x8" Oil on Panel SOLD
I came back from a walk in the Blue Ridge Mountains, inspired by the bright summer colors. Flowers were evident around every turn.
I love abstract, but find them very difficult. I have to have a starting point, some type of inspiration, some plan of composition. Often I end of scraping off hours of work.
This is one of the few that appeals to me. I felt good about it and still think it conveys the emotions I was feeling at the time. I mark this one as a success for me.

Flower Painting, Daily Painting, Palette Knife Art, Textured Art, Small Oil Painting, 6x8" Oil SOLD
Today I painted a flower.
| SOLD I have been struggling with my painting, for a full year now. I have never been able to establish a routine in the studio, since we packed our bags, and moved to the mountains. I thought I was over painting. I found no joy in it. In fact, everything I struggled to paint, seemed more like a duty and I found it frustrating. But now, we have been back at the beach for three months. It took awhile. First the holidays got in the way, but after the first of the year, I started to regain my love of spending my days in the studio. Maybe it was the inspiration of the long walks on the beach, or maybe it was being back with my art buddies again. Whatever..........I am thrilled and anxious to smear paint across canvas again! |
It is such a JOY!!!

Sunflower field Painting, Palette Knife Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 6x8" on Panel, SOLD
Sunflowers always make me smile! This little painting is no exception!
Sometimes, painting comes much more easily than others. I painted this and one other landscape that I am happy with.........and then the bottom fell out! I wiped and wiped and wiped. I couldn't seem to do anything right! Finally I turned to acrylic pouring as a distraction. I have been doing pouring exclusively for the last few weeks.
I am hoping this little journey into a related, but different type of work, will get me back on track again. More to come!

Floral Still Life Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Pink Glory", 6x8" Oil on Panel
I have been doing a few palette knife paintings, recently.
I think, I could be a much better artist, if I were to limit my techniques and subject matter to one type, but I also think that would be rather boring!
Variety of the spice of life......right?
I am fortunate and do not have to financially support myself, with my art, so I can indulge myself, in this way. Others are not. Still others do not have the desire to jump around, but are focused totally on one technique or subject.
Is there a right or wrong?

I love abstract, but find them very difficult. I have to have a starting point, some type of inspiration, some plan of composition. Often I end of scraping off hours of work.
This is one of the few that appeals to me. I felt good about it and still think it conveys the emotions I was feeling at the time. I mark this one as a success for me.

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Seascape Painting, 12x12x1.5" Oil
I am still in a seascape frame of mind.
This is worked with a palette knife. I enjoy lots of texture, so I left it on this piece. Maybe it is more of a skyscape? Maybe it is more abstract or impressionistic? Whatever it is, it reflects my mood at the time, which I think, is the point of painting.
