Four Seasons Abstract Painting - Autumn, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 4x12x.75" Oil, SOLD

Today I am posting the 3rd of my abstract Four Seasons Series, Autumn.

SOLD

My goal was to represent each season, in an abstract form, using only color.  With this piece, I was thinking of pumpkins, falling leaves and shockingly blue skies.

Above is spring.

And this is Summer.

I will be posting "Winter" soon.

I had fun with this series and hopefully, I "stretched" by abstract skills a little.

Thanks for reading my blog today.

Small Abstract Painting, Summer Colors, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8 Original Abstract SOLD

We are in serious summer now!   I decided to post a little abstract that screams SUMMER!

SOLD
Some days I just want to work with texture and color.  It is a great release, when I find my neck and shoulders tight.

Some days I just want to remind myself that this is my hobby......don't get too serious about the results.....don't stress when you don't produce a masterpiece......just enjoy the process.

Abstract Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Mountain Walk, 6x8" Oil on Panel SOLD

I came back from a walk in the Blue Ridge Mountains, inspired by the bright summer colors.  Flowers were evident around every turn.

SOLD

I love abstract, but find them very difficult.  I have to have a starting point, some type of inspiration, some plan of composition.  Often I end of scraping off hours of work.

This is one of the few that appeals to me.  I felt good about it and still think it conveys the emotions I was feeling at the time.  I mark this one as a success for me.

Ocracoke Island Abstract Oil Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Abstract Painting, Palette Knife Painting, SOLD

The Outer Banks on North Carolina have been on my mind.  I was thinking of Ocracoke when I painted this little abstract seascape.

The Outer Banks is like no other place I have visited. Surrounded by water, the residents are a hardy type who take pride in providing for themselves.  The danger of living there, is still felt, as the tropical storms and hurricanes devastate the dunes and road on a regular basis.  In earlier times, shipwrecks littered the beaches.

I painted with a palette knife and oils, leaving it as raw and wild as the beaches.

Thanks for viewing my art today.

A Safe Place, Abstract Painting,Palette Knife Painting, Church Painting, Small Oil Painting, daily Painting, 6x8" Oil on Panel, SOLD

I have been dabbling with abstracts for some time, and now have started to add some structures to the mix.
SOLD
I am always attracted to old churches, and this one is rather special.  It is a local landmark in our town.  I worked right next door for twenty plus years, so I saw it every day.  Now, it also serves as a cold weather shelter for the homeless.

I tried to focus on color interaction as well as texture and abstraction.  I am happy with the results.

Abstract Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Palette Knife Art

One would think, that abstract painting would be so easy.  My two year old can do that!

You may be right!  Two year olds are fearless.  They know not the meaning of failure.

Nothing is more frightening than a blank canvas when you have no plan.  The idea of abstract seems to appeal to every painter, but the reality is quite something else.

This piece is one of my favorites, using the cross composition.

Abstract Landscape Painting | Contemporary Art | Palette Knife Painting | HUES by Carol Schiff | 18x36x1.5" Oil

I wanted to do an abstract landscape in a larger size than I have worked with in the past.  I remembered driving through the fields of Georgia just as the sun broke over the horizon one morning, and decided to paint based on that memory.

I enjoyed the experience of painting on a larger scale and tried hard to keep the freshness of my smaller abstracts.

We used to say that photos never lie, but as you know, that is not true these days.  I just returned from a short trip to New York City with my daughter and grandson.  He had lots of fun taking photos that lie.  This is one of my favorites.....

We also walked by a sports show being filmed on TV.  That is my grandson in the background, making like the circus strong man.  Hope they didn't mind!

Abstract Painting, Abstract Seascape, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Palette Knife Painting 11x14x1.5" SOLD

For me, the best time to visit the beach is sunrise or sunset.  It is such a spiritual experience.

In the morning, I am usually alone.  Just me, my camera, the birds, and possible a lone fisherman, trying his luck.

At sunset, you may not be alone, but in a group of spectators, standing in awe, as the sun sinks into the sea.

Both experiences will enrich your day.
