Dogwood Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 6x8" Oil on panel

I had an empty wall in my house.....unheard of for an artist!!  After much deliberation, I decided I wanted to hang a couple of florals I painted a few months ago.

Dreaming of Dogwood

I wanted to inspire myself to try more of this style, very loose, and painted with lots of transparent colors and lots of medium.

Daffodil Days

So far, I have had a problem trying to dupicate the look!!!

A further complication.....the original paintings are 6x8" and I needed  larger pieces for my wall.

That was a problem I could solve.  I ordered giclee prints on canvas, increasing the size of the prints.  I have to say they came out wonderful.  I even manipulated the color slightly on the dogwood to work better in my room.  Thankfully, I was able to take high resolution images of both paintings, allowing them to be printed in the size I desired without losing detail in the  image.

Now, I just have to keep practicing until I am able to duplicate my technique.

Where Am I Going?, Small Oil Paintings, Daily Paintings

Traditionally, this time of the year,  is when we evaluate our performance, over the last twelve months, and look at the direction we are headed.

Artistically, I see nothing but question marks.  I want to have a clear plan, a path to follow and mark my progress, but alas, it evades me.

I looked through my posts from last year, and picked out my favorite pieces, hoping against hope that they will tell me where I am headed.

 Abstract Expressionism?

Maybe....

Thick Paint?

 Impressionism?

 Brushwork?
 Knife?

Really thin paint?

Or does it really matter?

All this thinking is making my head hurt!

I am happy I found this many pieces, from last year, that speak to ME.  I am happy with them which makes me happy with me.

Maybe 2020 will find me treading the straight and narrow.....but somehow, I don't think so.

Thank you all, for joining me on my crazy, unplanned journey!

Abstract Seascape Painting, Small Oil Painting, Tropical Ocean 8x8x1.5"

Fresh off a trip to the Florida Keys, I returned inspired by the gorgeous water colors. I started a new series I call "Coral Reef". This is the first piece of the series entitled "Wakes".

I was captivated with the colors of the sea as we rode out to the coral reef.

The boat wake followed us out seven miles from shore.

It was my first trip to the keys in many years, and a had forgotten the lure of the tropical beauty.

Abstract Syscape, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 8x8x3" Original Oil

Today is gray, foggy and damp, so I decided to post the most fun painting I could find.

Purchase here

You know how I love color and texture and this little painting has it all.

I painted it on a 8x8x3" canvas, so even the shape is unique.  It's chunky and cute and it resides on a bookshelf , where it brightens the whole room.  I cannot help but smile each time I look at it.

The canvas was a mistake.  I did not realize how deep it was when I ordered it.  What could I possibly do with it?  Well, for this painting, I think it is perfect!

Have a fantastic day!

Finally, I just couldn't take it anymore.  I had to get back into the studio!
I had so much fun with this piece!  It seems like forever, since I had a palette knife in my hand.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed painting it, and thanks for stopping bye today.

Have a great day!

Large Landscape Painting, Storm Painting, "StormFront" by Carol Schiff, 24x30x1.5" Original Oil Painting

In the tropics, the storms come in quickly and violently!  This large landscape painting attempts to convey the power and drama of these events.

I painted with a palette knife and tried to keep all the strokes visible and strong.

Some areas have extremely thick paint.

This was a study for a 48x60" piece that I painted.

A Year in the life of a Painter, Daily Paintings, Small Oil Paintings

I was looking back through my sales for the end of the year, and thought I would post some original paintings that have sold.

It is easy to spot a trend with sales of prints, but not so much for originals.

Rustic Barn Landscape Painting, Rural Landscape, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 9x12x.75" Palette Knife Painting, SOLD

Last month, my friends and I went on a photo shoot in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  We rode the country roads, looking for scenic farms.

SOLD
I couldn't resist this old ragged barn, on it's last legs.  I painted with a palette knife hoping to bring the scene to life.

It was a hot September day and the grasses had turned a golden brown.

How nice to be an artist.  I truly believe we train our eyes to see so much beauty, that often goes unnoticed in  daily life.  What a blessing we have!

Thanks for reading my blog today.....and stop to smell the roses.

Abstract Landscape Artwork, Daily Painting, Original Oil Painting, Palette Knife Art

We were driving through the fields of Georgia one morning, on one of our many journeys from Florida to North Carolina, when the sun burst over the horizon.  I was so happy I had my camera handy.

Does it show that I had a ball painting this one?

14x18" Oil

Maybe I went a little crazy with the colors.

Speaking of journeys, this is my second attempt at painting this image.  The first attempt was several years ago and is residing in Paris these days.

 It's a little more subdued.

Au Revoir
