A Chunky, Textured, Colorful Piece of Art That Makes Me Smile, Abstract Landscape, 8x8x3" Oil Painting

Today is gray, foggy and damp, so I decided to post the most fun painting I could find.

Purchase here

You know how I love color and texture and this little painting has it all.

I painted it on a 8x8x3" canvas, so even the shape is unique.  It's chunky and cute and it resides on a bookshelf , where it brightens the whole room.  I cannot help but smile each time I look at it.

The canvas was a mistake.  I did not realize how deep it was when I ordered it.  What could I possibly do with it?  Well, for this painting, I think it is perfect!

Have a fantastic day!

Abstract Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Textured Art, "Rainy Day in Albany" 10x10x3" Contemporary Art

This painting was a happy accident!  Well, maybe not the painting, but the total effect.

I purchased some art supplies online and was very surprised (and maybe dismayed) to see that two sizes of canvases we actually 3" deep!  How did that happen?  I thought about returning them, but after calculating the return shipping, I realized that would not work.

So what to do?  They seemed so in-your-face, not the right canvas for a delicate rose.

I decided abstract was the way to go.

I wanted lots of texture, but still need contract in the texture.

Yes, it can go on the wall.....but why?  I love it sitting on a shelf, pretending to be a sculpture.

And guess what!  A manufacturer loved it too, so it is licensed and may be appearing in a department store near you soon, pretending to be a pillow or maybe a duvet.

Thanks for reading my blog today.

Angelfish Oil Painting, Wildlife Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting "Angels on Parade, 8x16x.75" Oil

I am still reliving memories of my trip to the coral reefs off Key Largo last summer.  Today's painting  is inspired by that trip.

Something great happened with this painting......I really liked it!!  I love the texture, the hues, just about everything.  I guess I shouldn't be saying that about my own work, but I do!

I really enjoyed painting this piece and I think it shows.  I think it is important that an artist expresses their feelings in their work and I feel I was able to do that with this piece.  I was not trying to replicate an image, or colors, or even a composition.  I admit I was thinking about a companion piece to the one below.

It was a really good feeling to create these two pieces, more or less, out of my head, and I hope to do more of this in the future.

I have one more fishy piece to show you in my next post.

Thanks for reading my blog today.

A Daily Painter Questions the BIG PLAN

Traditionally, January is when we evaluate our performance over the last twelve months, and look at the direction we are headed.

Artistically, I see nothing but question marks.  I want to have a clear plan, a path to follow and mark my progress, but alas, it evades me.

I looked through my posts from last year, and picked out my favorite pieces, hoping against hope that they will tell me where I am headed.

 Abstract Expressionism?

Maybe....

Thick Paint?

 Impressionism?

 Brushwork?
 Knife?

Really thin paint?

Or does it really matter?

All this thinking is making my head hurt!

I am happy I found this many pieces, from last year, that speak to ME.  I am happy with them which makes me happy with me.

Maybe 2017 will find me treading the straight and narrow.....but somehow, I don't think so.

Thank you all, for joining me on my crazy, unplanned journey!

Cloud Painting, Sky Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, A Touch of Blue by Carol Schiff, 6x8 Original art

I love to paint the sky, but this is my first daily painting of ONLY sky.

It was really quite fun as I concentrate more on values than getting really accurate shape.  I like the texture  and will definitely do this little exercise again.

It's nice to have a model that is always available and changes each time you paint it.

What are your favorite things to paint?  I started off with simple still life, went through a flower stage and now find I am doing more landscape than anything else.  My goals this year are many.  I want to paint more larger pieces, more figurative pieces and to add quality giclee' prints to my website.

I hope I can stay on track.  Do you have a plan for where you want to be 12 months from now? I would love to hear about it.

Keep painting and thank you for viewing my blog today.
