Bottle Still Life | Small Oil Painting | Daily Painting Beach Treasure by Carol Schiff | 8x10 Oil | SOLD

This was the result of a request from a client.  The client's friend found this crusty old bottle in the surf of the Virgin Islands.  She wanted to surprise him with a gift and thought a little painting of a special day would be perfect.

SOLD
I panted from a photo she supplied.  The main challenge was to achieve the crusty appearance of the bottle.

Both the client and her friend were happy with the results.

Still life Bottle , Palette Knife Art, "Vintage Bottle" by Carol Schiff, 6x8" Oil Still Life, SOLD

I have become slightly obsessed with vintage bottles, well, maybe a little more than slightly.  I love the idea of these bottles, most of them reclaimed from the earth, crusty and sometimes pearlized.  I like to think about how they were used when they were new.....and if they have a crystal cross on top (called a cross bottle) all the better!

Purchase here
100 + shipping

This one, obviously does not have a cross on the top.  It does have any absolutely gorgeous color, kind of a cobalt violet.  I am told the it started out as clear glass, but due to magnesium in the glass, has aged into a beautiful hue.

The other thing I love, is painting with wild abandon with loads of thick, creamy, oil paint and a combination of palette knife and brush.  So yes, this little painting hits my buttons on several levels.

Some days, I just go through the motions, and the resulting painting usually shows it,  but this one was pure joy!  I would love for you to pin it!

Still Life Bottle Painting, "Fluer de Lis" by Carol Schiff, 6x18x1.5" Oil

I like to collect bottles, so, it is a natural for me to do a still life bottle painting.  I like the fluer de lis on the bottle as well as the bold gold color.

Painting this bottle was a challenge for me, but photographing the results was even more frustrating.  Try as I might, I could not get the correct background color to show.  The image above is much too blue while the one below seems more accurate.

Thank you for viewing my still life bottle painting today and please feel free to pin it if you so desire.

Small Still Life, Bottle Painting, 10x8" Oil by Carol Schiff

I have recently become fascinated with antique and vintage bottles as reflected in this small still life.  I see lots of them in the antique stores of North Carolina.  Most have been reclaimed from the earth and carry the results of spending years under ground.

I have been told that the smaller bottle started life as clear, uncolored glass, but because it contains magnesium, it has turned this glorious purple color.  It comes from Ohio.

The larger bottle is a mystery.  It carries only the imprint of a small sailboat (not visible in the painting).  I liked the shape and the sailboat, so I brought it home.  Are there any bottle experts out there who could give me a little history on it?  I would love to know the history involved in the subject matter of this small still life.
