Ocracoke Garden, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Original Wall Decor, Outer Banks, NC

A recent trip to Ocracoke, supplied me with some new painting inspiration.  The island is covered in cedar trees, that have grown in their twisted, windblown contortions.  Beauty is everywhere you look.

Purchase here

The island is located 40 miles off shore of mainland North Carolina, and involves a 2.5 hour ferry ride.  Once on the island, the primary mode of transportation are bicycles and golf carts.

Beautiful marshes on the sound side, and wonderful beaches on the ocean side.

We cannot wait to return!

Abstract Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Triptych Painting

Every now and then, I just have to do an abstract.  Usually painting knives are involved.  This one is no exception.   I wanted to take a square composition and turn it into a rectangle. This us what I came up with.

I have been in North Carolina, in the mountains for the past few weeks.  We are enjoying our time here.

The other day we went to the park and had a picnic lunch, something we never do at home.  There were ducks and geese everywhere.

We had a relaxing and fun time and our sandwiches tasted twice as good as usual.  The crisp fall weather comes and goes.  It is so much fun to be in the mountains this time of the year and I cannot wait for the fall color.   I will share with you when it comes.

When I work on the computer,  I can see chipmonks running back and forth, across the patio.  They are so fast, it is hard to get a photo, but I did manage to catch one stuffing his cheeks with goodies.

Have a great fall day, wherever you are.

Sunflower Painting, Field of Sunflowers, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 6x8" Oil Painting, SOLD

Sunflowers always make me smile!  This little painting is no exception!

SOLD

I used both a brush and knife on this piece.  I wanted some texture, and also vibrant colors.  I tried to make the colors play off one another.

Sometimes, painting comes much more easily than others.  I painted this and one other landscape that I am happy with.........and then the bottom fell out!  I wiped  and wiped and wiped.  I couldn't seem to do anything right!  Finally I turned to acrylic pouring as a distraction.  I have been doing pouring exclusively for the last few weeks.

I am hoping this little journey into a related, but different type of work, will get me back on track again.  More to come!

Thanks for viewing my blog today!

Palette Knife Paintings and Technique

The most enjoyable experiences, I get out of painting, almost always involves a palette knife.  I may start out with a brush in hand, but eventually the knife takes over.

This was my first experience.  I started on a canvas with a half finished painting.  One I had lost interest in ever finishing.

If you are interested in painting with a palette knife, you might want to check out this tutorial.  I found it to be very helpful.

I worked with both brush and palette knife, but 90% of it is the knife.

Hope you enjoy it!

Abstract Seascape Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 11x14" Original Oil Painting

It is so hard to believe, that we have been living in the mountains of North Carolina for a year and a half.  I marvel at the beautiful mountain scenes outside my door.  Asheville has sooo much to offer!

But there is something it cannot offer...the beach, the sea, the salt air.

Maybe that is why I was moved to do this abstract.

Purchase here

I had fun playing with the direction of my knife strokes.  Still a minimalist painting, but with a little added interest.   Hmmmm, I see a mountain abstract in my future!

The perfect wall decor for a beach house, or for someone dreaming of a beach house.

We will be heading back to the beach soon, and I will have sand on my toes, once again.

Have a blessed day!
