Expressionist Abstract Painting, Imagine Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 8x10 Oil Painting

Our paint group, Pieces of Eight, decided to spice up our lives a little bit, by issuing an art challenge each month.

Purchase here

I could not get the great John Lennon's song "Imagine" out of my mind!  If fact, as I write this, I am humming the song.

So, this is my interpretation.
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Check out Pieces of Eight blog  and view the other entries in our challenge.

Have a great day!

Tropical Fish Painting, Palette Knife Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 12x12x1.5"

This is a painting inspired by a trip to Key Largo, where we viewed the incredible coral reefs of the area.

Purchase here
The waters were teeming with fish of every color and shape.  Some were very curious and a few were right out scary!

We viewed them from a glass bottom boat, although I have to admit, I envied those brave souls who were in the water with them.

Thank you for viewing my blog today.

Small Sunflower Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8" Oil

Sunflowers and farmhouses, the perfect pairing!

It is a cold, gray day, here in the mountains, and sunflowers are the perfect way to brighten things up.

purchase here

Both sunflowers and farmhouses, are not uncommon, here in the mountains.  It's hard not to smile when I look at sunflowers.

Yesterday, we drove over the mountains  to Gatlinburg.  I am happy to report that things are looking up there.  Spring is taking over, renewal is everywhere.  Yes, there are still signs of the devastating fires from last fall, but the mood is upbeat and the tourists are there.

Have a wonderful day!

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Autumn Landscape, Daily Art, "Tree on Fire", 8x10x1.5" Oil

Autumn in the mountains is where I want to be.  Last year, I was very lucky to spend two months there.

I was inspired to paint this one from the ever evolving show I saw each day.  It brings back childhood memories of northern Ohio and Michigan.....minus the mountains, of course.

What more could I ask for?  It gets better and better each day.  Of course, in the mountains it seems the color is climbing to the sky.

One evening we spied a herd of Elk in the meadow.  You can hear them bellowing in the woods this time of year. They come down to the meadows to feed at dusk and dawn..  This herd was one make and about 30 females.

As much as I love it there, I was ready to head south to Florida when the weather got cold.  When the trees are stripped bare, and the cold winds are blowing, I enjoy the beautiful beaches. Life is good!

A Chunky, Textured, Colorful Piece of Art That Makes Me Smile, Abstract Landscape, 8x8x3" Oil Painting

Today is gray, foggy and damp, so I decided to post the most fun painting I could find.

Purchase here

You know how I love color and texture and this little painting has it all.

I painted it on a 8x8x3" canvas, so even the shape is unique.  It's chunky and cute and it resides on a bookshelf , where it brightens the whole room.  I cannot help but smile each time I look at it.

The canvas was a mistake.  I did not realize how deep it was when I ordered it.  What could I possibly do with it?  Well, for this painting, I think it is perfect!

Have a fantastic day!

Expressionist Sunset Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 9x12" Oil on Canvas Seascape

Well probably your 5 yr old kid could do this....right?  Maybe that is why I enjoy it so much.

I may be a slow learner, because it took me many years to get to this point.  Mama never said I was the sharpest knife in the drawer.

All kidding aside, I really love the freedom of this piece.  Instead of leaving the studio feeling like I have been fighting for hours, I felt very relaxed, happy and ready to sail through the day.  I think I need to do this more often!

Thanks for reading my blog today.

Mountain Wildflowers, Floral Landscape, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 8x6" Oil on Panel

Last fall, we took a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  It was a crisp, sunny day and my camera was busy clicking away.

Purchase here

It's hard to go wrong with a blue and yellow painting.....it just shouts "Cheerful".  The background was painted  with a brush, but I used a palette knife on the flowers and grasses.  That's when it started to be really fun!

I feel like I was able to capture the feel of the day......I hope it made you smile!

Tropical Landscape Painting, Palm Tree Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 8x16" Original Oil Painting

Another piece inspired by the Florida Keys, and one of those glorious sunsets!

Purchase here

I remember this spot well.  We were at an open air restaurant on the water's edge.  Very laid back with this beautiful scene before us.  When I say we were on the water's edge, I mean where the restaurant stopped, (no walls, just a roof) the water started!  How could we not enjoy our meal?

I don't remember what I ate, or the name of the place, but I do remember it was on the ocean side on Marathon Key.  If I could find it again, I would go in a minute, just to experience the atmosphere and enjoy a glass of wine.

Sigh!

Alligator Painting, Wildlife Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 6x8" Oil on Panel

These guys are not uncommon sights in Florida.  Sometimes you see them snoozing in the sun next to a road.  Golfer's here usually have a scary encounter to tell.

Purchase here
This was my third attempt to paint this fellow.  I had difficulty getting the drawing correct, as well as the color.  The image I worked from was not exciting. Eventually, I think I worked it out.

Go gators!

Coral Rose Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8" Impressionist art

I recently took a 3 day workshop from my favorite instructor, Elio Comacho, where we painted fresh flowers every day.

purchase here

Since I usually paint from the computer monitor, it is always a challenge to paint from life.  I do enjoy it, but, I know myself well enough to know that I need the advantage of having an image available whenever I want it.

purchase here

When I paint flowers on my monitor, I tend to get tighter.  That does bother me.

Both of these were painted using my monitor.  I am not unhappy, but I hope to see improvement down the road.

Hope you have a rosey day!

Dolphin Painting, Wildlife Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 6x8" Original Oil

This was a fun painting for me.  Maybe it's the subject matter, but I smiled the whole time.

Purchase here
Last summer, we spent a few days in Key Largo, with our grandson.  The one thing he was really looking forward to was swimming with the dolphins.  He loved every minute of it and later told me he had met a life long goal by doing so.  (He was 13).

While I was watching, I snapped this shot of one of the dolphins, and have had it on my list of subjects to paint for months.

Sometimes, many times, I find myself putting off certain subjects, afraid that I am not accomplished enough to do them justice.  Such was the case here.

I am happy I finally gave it a try, and was pleased with the results.  I will have to push myself more in the future, when I find myself backing off a subject that I am unfamiliar with.

Hope you have a great day!

Barn Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Rustic Painting, Scenic Landscape, 9x12x.75"

I am spending time in the mountains and have said goodbye to the tropical scenes, for now.

Purchase Here

I have been reviewing Wolf Kahn's body of work and it seemed to mesh nicely with the subject matter here.  He is such a master.  His sense of color is unrivaled!

I tried to take a few hints from him.

Be prepared to see a few more barns and rural scenes in the next few weeks.

Have a colorful day!
