Exciting News!!

One of the most exciting things about being an artist, on the internet, is the contact you receive from people all over the world.

Over the years I have recieved  several licensing contracts, had my artwork on CD covers, designed food wrappers for a candy company, been published in international books, and had my art prints purchased by set design on the TV show "Hawaii Five-O".

All this has come to me, simply because I sell art on the internet.  I am blessed!

Today I get to add to the list.

This is my artwork as a wine label!!

Doesn't it look great!!

In a few weeks I will travel to Georgia, to visit the wonderful folks at the winery.

The wine is a pineapple infused chardonnay, which I am anxious to try.  My friends know that chardonnay is my drink of choice, so I will be coming home with a trunk full of it.

Now I'm back at the easel.  I am working on a 24x30" in my Coral Reef series and will be posting it soon.

Aloha!

Daily Painting, Wildlife Art, "Mountain Ducky" by Carol Schiff, 6x8" Oil SOLD

This daily painting is a happy little duck I found in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina.  It was a hot summer day and the colors of the water reflected a gorgeous blue sky.

Some days, I love working with a palette knife and smearing lots of thick paint around and this was one of those days.  It is just so satisfying ....kind of like baking bread!

Thank you for viewing my daily painting and if you like it.....I hope you will pin it!

Seascape Oil Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 11x14" Ocean Painting Underwater Garden

I am still reliving my recent trip to Key Largo in my paintings.  I think this is number five or six in the series I call "Coral Reef".

Purchase here
While in Key Largo we went out seven miles to the coral reef in a glass bottom boat.  I got really sea sick when they powered down over the reef and did not enjoy it as much as I would have liked to.

detail
But, I kept my eyes on the reef as much as I could, and took some photos.  I did love the trip out and the trip back.  I could not take my eyes off the stunning aqua and blue waters.

These paintings are more impressions than actual scenes.

Small Oil Painting, Tree Painting, Daily Painting, Fall Color Maple Tree, 6x8" Oil

I painted this little piece last fall, looking out the window of my studio in the Smoky Mountains.  It was a cold, gray, rainy day, and the little tree seemed to glow.

It reminded me of the little engine that could.  (I think I can, I think I can)

I always enjoy slinging paint around with a palette knife.  I highly recommed it, so if you have not tried it...........

Daily Painting, Underwater Painting, Key Largo Sea Turtle, Small Oil Painting, 8x8x1.5" Oil

I am still working on my Coral Reef Series.  This is #4.  I tried to capture the glorious colors of the area and the relaxing, tranquil atmosphere.  This piece was painted using both brush and palette knife.  The 1.5" deep sides are painted a dark value, allowing it to be hung with or without a frame.

I hope you are enjoying this series as much as I am.  Thanks for reading by blog today.

Coral Reef Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 8x8" Underwater Painting

I am still inspired by my trip to Key Largo a few weeks ago.

This painting is #3 in my Coral Reef Series.  I painted with a palette knife and all those gorgeous tropical colors.

I was happy with the way this  one turned out, until my grandson (14 years old) came over for a visit and somehow managed to stick his foot right in the middle of the wet paint.  I couldn't blame him, because I was the one who put it on the floor!  Duh!

He was devastated, but five minutes later, all was repaired and I like the final results much better than the original version.

I am really enjoying this series as each one I do, instantly takes me back to the wonderful and magical time we spent on Key Largo.

Good things have been happening at Carol Schiff Studio, and I hope to have some exciting news to share with you soon.

Thanks for visiting today.

Abstract Seascape Oil Painting, Tropical Waters, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 11x14x1.5"

Continuing on my tropical journey to the Florida Keys.  Today's post is my impressions of the sea off the coast of southern Florida.

Purchase here
It is hard to find more fun (in the studio), than to dig into a big pile of paint, with your knife, and just go to town.  Adding and subtracting values and hues........puts me in the zone every time.

detail
As much as I love creating all this yummy texture, I can only do it for a few days, before I start to crave a little structure and strong composition.  Each day I work on this coral reef series, I get a little less abstract and and little more impressionist.

Join me on my journey.....

Abstract Seascape Painting, Small Oil Painting, Tropical Ocean 8x8x1.5"

Fresh off a trip to the Florida Keys, I returned inspired by the gorgeous water colors. I started a new series I call "Coral Reef". This is the first piece of the series entitled "Wakes".

I was captivated with the colors of the sea as we rode out to the coral reef.

The boat wake followed us out seven miles from shore.

It was my first trip to the keys in many years, and a had forgotten the lure of the tropical beauty.

Abstract Seascape | Daily Painting | "Tropical Blues" by Carol Schiff | 6x8" Oil SOLD

Living close to the sea, I find it turns up in my painting in both a representative and non-representative form.  I guess this little daily painting falls somewhere between the two.

SOLD

I painted this with a palette knife.  I like texture and feel it adds additional interest to my art.  I was thinking about the beautiful greens and blues of the tropical waters off the coast of Florida.  Further south they turn the most amazing shades of azure, but that will be another painting.

I almost always show my paintings in black frames.  It would be hard to find an artwork that would not work well with black and it just makes the colors pop.

I've had an exhausting two months.  We left for our 2nd home in North Carolina the end of August, and returned home to Florida Nov.1  I had 12 hours at home, before I left for 5 wonderful days in a workshop with the fabulous painter, Elio Camacho.  Pure Heaven!

Elio is a charming and knowledgeable instructor and gives all his students an incredible amount of information and attention.  I am looking forward to his next series of Florida workshops in the spring.

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Autumn Landscape, Daily Art, "Tree on Fire", 8x10x1.5" Oil

This time of the year, the mountains are where I want to be.  This year, I have been very lucky to spend two months here.

I was inspired to paint this one from the ever evolving show I see each day.  It brings back childhood memories of northern Ohio and Michigan.....minus the mountains, of course.

What more could I ask for?  It gets better and better each day.  Of course, in the mountains it seems the color is climbing to the sky.

One evening we spied a herd of Elk in the meadow.  You can hear them bellowing in the woods this time of year. They come down to the meadows to feed at dusk and dawn..  This herd was one make and about 30 females.

As much as I love it here I will be ready to head south to Florida in the next few days.  When the trees are stripped bare, and the cold winds are blowing, I will be enjoying the beautiful beaches. Life is good!

Small Abstract Painting, Daily Painting, Original Oil Abstract ,by Carol Schiff, 8x8x1.5"

It has been some time since I posted an abstract......this week I was in the mood to do some non-representative work.

Purchase here

I enjoy abstract, at times, as it gives me the opportunity to concentrate on composition and color relationships.  No drawing distractions!

I started this piece by creating lots of texture on the canvas, followed by a coat of acrylic cad. red.  Then the fun began as I brought out my oils and just pushed paint around until I was happy with the results.  It was that same feeling I used to get when I would stomp around in rain puddles as a kid.

I know I will soon go back to representative work, but today, I am happy with this,

Daily Painting, Sunset Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Marsh Sky", 11x14x1.5" Landscape Oil Painting

Life here in the mountains, of North Carolina, is a slower pace for me,  But the days are quickly getting shorter and shorter.  The leaves are beautiful, my favorite time of year!  It reminds me of my childhood days in northern Ohio, burning leaves, apple cider, hay rides.  I wonder if people still do those things.

I am still busy, painting commissions, but I managed to paint this 11x14x1.5" landscape,  It is a study for a commission.

It is not easy capturing that "glow" from a beautiful sunset, and I am not sure I succeded here. but it is a start.

I like texture in my art and one of my favorite tricks, is to take a failed painting, leave the texture and use the panel again.  Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

Many artists use their canvases more than once, but convential  wisdom is you must sand it down.  I
sometimes do that too, but if I want to do a little expressionism, I say, why destroy all that lovely texture?
